Your Itinerary*

Day 1 - Saturday - February 18, 2012
Our guide and our driver meets us at the San Jose airport and takes us to our first incredible destination – La Paz Waterfall Gardens. In this private park, we will visit the aviary, the butterfly house, the hummingbird garden and walk the scenic trails along beautiful waterfalls. Lunch will be served here among the orchids and mountain views.

Day 2 - Sunday - February 19, 2012
Our adventure begins in earnest! We start the day rafting Rio Pacuare, one of the best whitewater rivers in the world. Our guides steer us through Class III-IV rapids, into jungles and canyons, past waterfalls and wildlife. Along the trip we have opportunities to stop and swim. On the river we have a lunch that includes fresh pineapple and watermelon. When our rafting trip concludes, our driver whisks us to our second night's hotel.

Day 3 - Monday - February 20, 2012
Today we explore the rain forest. We visit the Tirimbina Rainforest Center, where we learn about the flora and fauna of this diverse and fragile ecosystem. Our guide takes us on well-groomed trails and over swinging bridges into the rainforest. Keep your eyes and ears open for monkeys, sloths, white bats, Jesus Christ lizards and many exotic birds. We also learn the process of chocolate making – from plant to candy bar. Bring your binoculars, cameras and questions about this ecosystem.
After our hike, we make our way to La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano. We will have time to visit the La Fortuna Falls and the town before dinner.

Day 4 - Tuesday - February 21, 2012
Today we get under way using pedal power. Our easy ride on mountain bikes takes us on gravel roads around Arenal Volcano and Arenal Lake. Keep your eyes open for monkeys and pizotes. We ride through jungle and small towns. We have a rest stop for snacks. If you get tired of cycling, your guides will have vans ready for you to ride and enjoy the views.
After our cycling, we return to La Fortuna for lunch and to stretch our legs. Several souvenir and artisan shops will temp you with trinkets. Pick up a post card to brag to your friends.
Our day concludes with a relaxing dip in a hot springs resort. The hot water is compliments of the thermal action of Arenal Volcano. There are several pools with varying degrees of hot water. Pick up an umbrella drink and let the cascading water massage your shoulders. Once we've thoroughly pruned ourselves, we'll dine at the resort restaurant.

Day 5 - Wednesday - February 22, 2012
We get an early start. We drive into the mountain towns of Santa Elena and Monteverde. Once there we have lunch and some time to explore the town square before our next adventure - the exhilarating zip lines!
Our zip line tour takes us from tree platform to tree platform along cables suspended through the jungle canopy and over mountain valleys. Achieving speeds over 35 mph along cables over 1/4 mile in length, this is the thrill ride that has become synonymous with Costa Rica vacations.

Day 6 - Thursday - February 23, 2012
After breakfast we drive down the mountains to experience a more relaxed tour. On the Tenorio and Corobici Rivers we take a gentle float trip. We are in a very different region of the country and will see new species of fauna and flora. Bring your binoculars and cameras. Our raft guides does all the work while we explore the scenery.
From our river exploration we make our way northwards to our Pacific beach lodging. We may arrive in time to catch sunset and take a stroll along the pristine beach. It has been a full day and we will need to relax.

Day 7 - Friday - February 24, 2012
It is our last full day in Costa Rica. We will spend it relaxing in our sleepy little beach town. Sleep in late. Swim along the beach. Relax with a good book by the pool. Work on those postcards you've been neglecting. Today is for catching some rest after our week's adventures. The only thing officially on the day's schedule is dinner tonight.

Day 8 - Saturday - February 12, 2011
We hate to say it; but, it's time to go. After breakfast our driver shuttles us to the Liberia airport to catch our flights home. While at the airport, pick up that last-minute souvenir, finally finish those neglected postcards and make your final good-byes to your new friends.
