About Us
Tread Light Adventure Travel is the result of years of exploring and wishing to share those explorations. It started with local day trips, which led to overnight trips, which developed into multi-day/multi-sport adventures. Trips are designed to be enjoyed by anyone in reasonable shape with a will to explore — and maybe the willingness to try something new. If along the way you feel you've tested your limits and exceeded expectations, we are glad to have been a part of your success. We hope you continue your explorations and adventures. And please remember, for all your adventures: Leave only footprints, take only photographs.

Who We Are
|
Tread Light Adventure Travel is "owned and operated" by Michael Hughes. A Nashville resident, Michael has worked in the retail area of the outdoor adventure business since 2000. He has taught classes on and led many outdoor adventure activities, including hiking, backpacking, recreational kayaking, cycling, nature photography and more. His whole life has been spent exploring, taking photographs and learning about the world around him. His "day job" is working retail to help folks select clothing and gear for adventures and working as an interpreter at a local nature park. He regularly leads hikes with a local hiking club and leads just a few trips with Tread Light Adventure Travel each year. Michael is happy to share information and advice on gear, clothing and locations for adventures.

Guiding Ideas

Two quotes seem to sum up what drives us:
"It is not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years." - Abraham Lincoln "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do." - Mark Twain There is a world out there to be explored, adventures to be had. As our name implies, we do "light" adventures, but they are adventures nonetheless. Challenges are different for each adventurer. You don't have to be a triathlete or adventure racer to perform the activities we endeavor on our trips, but that doesn't mean you can't attain a sense of accomplishment from your efforts. We promise, you'll come away with stories of your exploits to share with friends and family. And they will be impressed with tales of your adventures — maybe even jealous. |
