I was snapping pictures before I was 12. By my 13th birthday, I had my first 35mm camera - an old Kodak with a Schneider-Krueznach lens. (Note the header image.) About that same time, I was introduced to a darkroom where I began developing my own film and prints. Watching an image materialize from a blank sheet of paper was magical and mesmerizing. It still is.
Throughout my teens and twenties, my grandfather and I would share photographs and relate the circumstances and settings for each image. When he passed away, I received the bulk of his old camera gear, some of which I still use to this day.
Photography has always been a very personal and, yet, public experience for me. It is private in the way I pursue my subject matter. There are many times that I strike out on my own to photograph. And there are times when I follow, or even lead, a group. Even when shooting with a group, I disappear into my camera and into a world all my own. I see things often unseen by those around me, pursue and capture my subject, unbeknownst to the crowd. These private moments become public images as I share them with the world, and with you. I enjoy sharing my experiences, my hikes, my travels, and my explorations, through my imagery. I am happy to share with you the circumstances and settings for each image.
I am attempting to create a library of images for you to explore and enjoy. Some of this work is displayed purely for educational purposes. Some images are for you to escape into the world I have had the great fortune to see. Some images are for sale for personal and/or commercial use. But mostly, they are for sharing.
Granddaddy, are you seeing these, too?
